Swansea 5-a-side League

Keep track of our relegation push here http://www.swansea5aside.com/soccerleagues_frameset.htm

We are Medics Year 2 and the year 1 team are now called something like Ackland Utd.

New Bike

Oh yeah.. I also bought a new bike. I was planning to leave this until next year but then found out my current one was so fucked there was no point in repairing it. Pictures will follow....

The Whole Cycling Thing...

Don't ask me why, but for some reason I have come up with this crazy scheme to cycle around Wales as a holiday - a HOLIDAY! I know, stupid. Even more bizarrely, I seem to have convinced Matt, Martin, possibly Fisher if he is allowed off of his leash and a chap called Gareth that Phil knows to come with me. The proposed route is in yellow and takes us from Swansea, over the Brecon Beacons, right up through mid Wales ("hills" and "valleys" are words being bandied about, along with "mountains"), across Snowdonia and over Anglesey to Holyhead. Then we turn around and come back down the West Wales Coastal path, down to Carmarthen and then back across along the South Coast to Swansea. Worryingly, the route up is mostly marked as strenuous, but follows the following probable stages:

Day 1 - Cardiff - Brecon (in this case Swansea to Brecon via Merthyr) - relatively easy
Day 2 - Brecon - Builth Wells - Moderate - 32 miles
Day 3 - Builth Wells - Llanidloes - Moderate - 32 miles
Day 4 - Llanidloes - Machynlleth - Strenuous - 24 miles
Day 5 - Machynlleth - Dolgellau - Stenuous - 15 miles
Day 6 - Dolgellau - Porthmadog - Strenuous - 29 miles
Day 7 - Porthmadog - Caernarfon - Moderate - 29 miles
Day 8 - Caernarfon - Holyhead - Easy - 38 Miles

Some of these stages I reckon we can do in much shorter times if we are fit enough and push on, but we shall see (ie it depends on how much my ass hurts).

The way back has yet to be calculated.....

I suspect we will get some sponsorship/charity type stuff going on also.

Where did November Go??

Righty ho, first things first - after a last gasp goal against Bury Swindon have climbed back up to 2nd in the table so thats one good thing in a sea of mediocrity.

The second good thing is that I am still maintaining my lead at the top of the Fantasy Superleague - although a terrible week this week salvaged only by Kevin Doyle.

Continuing the football theme, as that is all I seem to be doing at the moment, the Staff team are on a terrible losing run. Having lost narrowly to the second years a few weeks ago 3-2, we then slipped to a 7-4 defeat against a local team of medics - albeit with half of our first choice players unavailable. Last week we then got tanked 4-1 by the first years. Not the greatest prep for the January Charity Shield thing but ho hum.

To cap it all off the students have formed teams in local 5 a side leagues and somehow I have become the secnd year keeper. a 10-4 defeat followed by a 8-4 one today is not a great start. Still, some team have conceded 83 goals in 9 games, so we arent the worst team there is.... yet

Other than that and the whole cycling thing November has been a bit of a rapid washout...

Halloween Party

Naturally refusing the more obvious costumes and with a time limit, I decided to make a Batman Begins Scarecrow mask. Several key problems arose:

1. Where the hell do you buy Hessian from?

2. Homebase's rope and twine section is confusing

3. I can't sew.

4. I can't sew hessian with brown twine.

5. I was trying to do it the night before the party.

However, as I think you'll agree the result is pretty cool - certainly scared a few people at the party anyway. The big advantage f the mask is that I could leer at the rather less well clad female revellers without notice. Ace. I won't name names I am too much of a gent, but some of the temptresses there were HOT.

Fantasy football and STFC

Thought I'd combine the 2 today - 2nd in FF - password is Party this week, Just made two transfers to try and claw back my 4 point deficit be getting shot of bloody Dan "not playing now" Agger and bringing in soon to be shite Pompey defender Matty Taylor, and swapping Marlon "where's the net?" King for Kevin Doyle. So thats him finished for the season then.

Swindon lost to Lincoln last week following the shock departure of Dennis We never liked him anyway" Wise to Northern Bastard League side Leeds.

Apparently Southampton and Sheffield Uniter reject Paul Sturrock is linked. Great. Going to see Swindon on Saturday v Hereford - stuff them Welsh bastards.
